Consent for Treatment not Obtained

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) cited Brynn Marr Hospital for failing to inform patients of their rights. The facility failed to obtain signed consents for two patients who were involuntarily committed at the facility. In both cases, not only were the proper consent forms regarding their treatment and acknowledgment of patient rights unsigned, but the medical records also had no documentation showing any attempts were made by the facility to reach the patients’ legal guardians for consent. As a result, the facility was required to submit a plan of correction to address its cited deficiencies and revise its policies and procedures.
