Contraband Found During Tour of Facility

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) cited Manatee Palms Youth Services for failing to meet the standards for physical plant safety after contraband was found on the premises. A sharpened pencil was found in a patient room in the “Terra Cela” unit, even though the facility’s contraband policy lists pencils among the items “considered to be dangerous to patients or others.” As a result, the facility was required to submit a plan of correction to address its cited deficiencies. As part of the correction plan, the facility revised its contraband search guidelines.
