Facility Fails to Keep Accurate and Complete Records

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a citation against Kingwood Pines Hospital for failing to ensure that its patient medical records were complete and accurate. Two patients who were ordered to be monitored every 15 minutes were caught engaging in sexual intercourse in one of the patient’s rooms. At the time of the incident, a staff member incorrectly documented on the patients’ “15 minutes check sheets” that the patients were present in the day room. As a result of the incident, the facility submitted a plan of correction to address its cited deficiencies and deficient patient observation practices.
