Failure to Complete Timely Psychosocial Assessment on Runaway Patient

Vines Hospital received a citation from Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration for failing to complete a timely psychosocial assessment for a patient. Even though assessments are to be completed within three days of admission, the patient’s assessment was not conducted until the day on which he ran away and was discharged, 5 days after admission. There was also no indication that the discharge was appropriate, as the patient’s discharge instructions were limited and provided no names or agencies to contact for additional medical or mental health assistance.
