Grievance Process Not Followed

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) determined that University Behavioral Health failed to uphold patients’ rights to be notified of grievance decisions. Upon review of patient grievances, CMS surveyors found that the facility failed to provide seven patients with “an effective grievance resolution process.” Patients were not given written notice of the facility’s grievance decisions, the steps taken on behalf of the patients, or the results and dates of completion of the grievance process. As a result, the facility was required to submit a plan of correction to address its cited deficiencies and deficient patient grievance policies and procedures.
