Hospital Failed to Timely Report Attempted Stabbing

The Colorado Department of Public Health cited Cedar Springs Behavioral Health for failing to timely report an incident in which a patient (Patient A) with a history of behavioral problems attempted to stab another patient (Patient B). Patient B was in his bathroom when  Patient  A entered his room. Patient A then proceeded to jump on Patient B’s back and attempted to stab him in the neck with a pencil. Patient B was assessed to have a superficial scratch on his jawline and neck. While the Deparment of Public Health acknowledged that the facility acted appropriately by reporting the occurrence, it also wrote:
The facility is subject to a deficiency for failure to report the occurrence timely. The Department will review this occurrence prior to any survey or upon receipt of any complaint that may be filed against this facility.
