Hospital Lacks Physician Orders for 32 Restraint/Seclusion Incidents

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) cited Cumberland Hospital for the inappropriate use of patient restraints and seclusion. CMS found that one patient was restrained within the hospital’s residential treatment center, which was not licensed for restraint use. Thirty-two (32) documented occurrences of restraint, seclusion, or restraint to seclusion incidents did not reveal a physician’s order on the patient’s chart.
