In February, 2013, Keys of Carolina (now closed) was one of several facilities included in a subpoena served by the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (“OIG”). The subpoena requested various documents from January 2008 to the date of the subpoena. Prior to receiving this subpoena, Keys of Carolina received notification during the second half of 2012 from the U.S. Department of Justice (“DOJ”) of its intent to proceed with an investigation following requests for documents for the period of January, 2007 to October, 2012 from the North Carolina state Attorney General’s Office. Keys of Carolina was closed and the real property was sold in January, 2013. Read more about these and other investigations here.
