Meadows Psychiatric Center fails to report sexual assault of patient

Meadows Psychiatric Center Inpatient Unit was cited by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare’s Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (OMHSAS) for violating procedures and regulations around reporting suspected or discovered child or patient abuse.

The OMHSAS found that a patient had reported to program staff  he “had been sexually assaulted by a peer.” However, the program and its staff did not report this incident to the Childline when they became aware of the situation.

To correct the cited deficiencies, the facility submitted a plan of correction that included re-education of the Childline reporting policy and requirements.
