Newport News Behavioral Health Center was cited during a facility inspection by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) for violations related “deprivation of services and treatment” and patient supervision.
DBHDS found that the provider violated state standards for services and treatment by not following through with the recommended therapeutic treatment for the resident, as dictated by the placing agency/legal guardian. The DBHDS also found that the provider was non-compliant with these standards by “allowing a resident to be transported to [his/her] home county by [an] unauthorized individual.”
DBHDS also found that the facility violated standards related to patient supervision. Video footage showed that an overnight shift staff member was sleeping during scheduled patient supervision hours. The DBHDS determined that as a result, no active supervision took place on the unit for a period of approximately 30 minutes.
The Corrective Action Plan did not have any comments or actions to be taken by the facility.
