Nurse Who Lost License Appointed as Director of Acute Services

Old Vineyard Behavioral Health was cited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for placing an unlicensed employee in a role that required licensure or certification. The position in question is Director of Acute Services, which must be filled by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and involves direct supervision of employees in patient care roles. The facility’s Director of Acute Services was originally hired as a Registered Nurse but subsequently lost his license, with the North Carolina Board of Nursing License Verification noting this loss of license was ‘due to discipline’. Upon losing his nursing license the employee was recommended for the Director of Acute Services position, even though he was not a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. After being cited for the deficiency, Old Vineyard removed him from the position.
