Patient Acquires Bruise on Face While at Facility; No Explanation Given

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) cited Hickory Trail Hospital for failing to uphold a patient’s righs to care in a safe setting. The cited deficiencies relate to an incident in which a patient was found with an unexplained bruise on her chin that was not present upon admission. CMS found that the patient’s nursing/skin assessment did not mention the bruise, but the bruise was found on the patient on the second day of her hospitalization.
