The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services cited Central Florida Behavioral Hospital for failing to provide patient care in a safe setting. A patient who had been placed on 15-minute watch due to suicide and elopement precautions escaped the facility and was nowhere to be found. Staff had logged the patient as “‘seen on the unit'” with “‘no sign of distress'” at 7:30 PM. However, a video recording reveals that at 7:25 PM, the patient had jammed an entrance door open with his foot to escape the facility. After making it over the 12-foot security fence, the patient was last seen on video running across the street away from the facility.
