Patient Escapes Through the Front Door

In January 2013, National Deaf Academy was cited by Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration after a patient escaped from the facility through the front door. The patient had previously tried to run into traffic and escape precautions were ordered. The facility’s written policies noted that security personnel shall be “vigilant in their observation of the client behaviors” when these precautions were ordered, but staff confirmed that the facility had eliminated its security personnel some time ago.
