Patient Left Unsupervised; Kills Roommate

In December 2012, video evidence confirmed that a psychotic patient described by staff as “uncontrollable,” was left unsupervised behind a closed door with a roommate for two hours. When staff opened the door, the patient was sitting on top of his roommate, who died shortly thereafter. The patient was referred to the police and charged with second-degree murder. When interviewed, an employee said, “sometimes there are not enough staff to care for the residents and residents do not receive the care they should.”
