Patient Sued Facility over Injuries During Escape Attempt While Under Escort; Case Settled

A former patient of Fairmount Behavioral Health System sued the facility in connection with injuries he alleges to have suffered when he escaped the facility. While being escorted from an involuntary committal hearing, the former patient alleged that he escaped into the streets. According to his allegations, during his escape attempt, he injured himself and sustained contusions, wounds, and lacerations from jumping over a fence and handling an empty glass bottle. He also alleged that facility staff failed to ensure his safety while under their care and supervision, failed to follow proper safety procedures while transporting patients, and failed to adequately train staff on managing/transporting patients.

The case settled in January 2014.
