Patient Was Held Against His Will Without Timely Psychiatric Screening

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) cited Fort Lauderdale Hospital for failing to examine a patient within 24 hours, as required by law. A patient voluntarily admitted to the hospital was not given a psychiatric evaluation within 24 hours and decided to sign himself out of the facility. However, the patient was prohibited from leaving without seeing a physician and held against his will until a medical screening was performed 48 hours after admission.
