Patient's Multiple Medical Conditions Not Addressed; Hospital Units Understaffed

Valley Hospital was cited for inadequate nursing services for failing to develop a care plan that addressed a patient’s multiple medical problems, including cancer and fibromyalgia.  The facility’s Director of Nursing confirmed to surveyors that the care plan “did not address any of the patient’s medical problems.” Regulators for the state of Arizona also found that the number of nursing staff in Valley Hospital’s Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and RS unit did not match the number required by the facility’s FTE (full-time equivalent) calculator for at least 3 days in April 2013 and 2 days in May 2013.
