Riveredge Cited for Understaffing and Poor Grievance Resolution

Riveredge Hospital was found by the state health department to have inadequate staffing levels. Facility policy required an additional nurse to be added to a unit when patient census reached 17. However, review of staff schedules showed multiple instances where the facility did not provide the additional nurse. The department also cited the facility for failing to provide a patient’s family with a written resolution to their complaint. The mother of a patient complained that her 11-year-old daughter reported being sexually harassed by her roommate in the facility. The incident report showed no evidence that the facility notified the patient’s family of any findings or corrective action taken related to the incident.
