Staff Stretched Too Far

The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) cited The Vines Residential Treament Center for failing to implement treatment plans that reflected changes in patient need. Three young female patients had their supervision levels increased to “line of sight” following “kissing” and “staff attack” incidents. However, AHCA surveyor interviews found that there was not enough staff to carry out the supervision orders as “there were 4 residents on ‘line of sight’ supervision with only 3 staff monitoring them along with seven other residents.” The Program Director stated there was a male “floater” from the boys unit who could assist with supervision if necessary, but he admitted that this could be a problem because male staff cannot attend the girls during personal care.
