Timberlawn Issued Citations for Deficiencies in Multiple Patient Units

Following an unannounced inspection survey, Timberlawn Mental Health System was cited by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for multiple deficiencies in its patient care units. CMS found that the dietary department was not maintained in a sanitary manner, which placed patients at risk for acquiring or developing infections. CMS also found that four out of seven of the facility’s nursing units (the chemical dependency, adult, trauma, and children’s units) were not maintained to ensure patient safety and well being. CMS also found that certain facility equipment, such as wheelchairs, blood pressure machines, and hand sinks, were not properly maintained for patient use. As a result, the facility had to submit a plan of correction to address its physical plant and inadequate facility maintenance deficiencies.
