Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center was cited by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) for violations of human rights laws, staff background check regulations, and medication security standards. During employee record reviews, DBHDS found three psychiatrists who had not completed the required Human Rights training and did not have completed Child Registry checks. Also, these same three psychiatrists had not completed staff orientation training at the facility. DBHDS inspectors also found two medication storage units that were unlocked and medication drawers that were not sturdy. DBHDS noted that it “strongly recommends that medications be stored in a more secure manner.” The facility submitted a plan of correction to address these cited deficiencies.
